INTRODUCTION TO CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
summary of article
There are several setbacks in the construction industry that is still being treated with care. More than anywhere else, this issue creates a huge complication in developing countries. However, construction industry development is often seen as a need for only developing countries, although it is also relevant to industrialised countries. Some of the key challenges are from the construction industry development, globalisation, culture, the environment.

Firstly, the construction industry deliberately needs to be improved for its better capacity and effectiveness. This will cause increased value for money to industry clients as well as environmental responsibility in the delivery process and the viability and competitiveness of domestic construction enterprises. Some many committees and thrusts are up and sailing with this motive.
Besides that, from the perspective of developing countries, globalisation is a big challenge too. This is because many of the construction development is beyond the capability of their industries to undertake. Hence, developing countries must import some construction activities. Even though this has some advantages like the involvement of international finance, it has major setbacks like local firms being deprived of the opportunity to grow too.

Next up, their culture. Most developing countries use procurements and administration method inherited from western countries. Every organization has a culture which is determined by its history, size, corporate goals and objectives, technology of production, market, and operating environment. Given the uniqueness of culture to particular groups of people and its pervasive influence in societies and organisations, these studies confirm that the construction industry must differ in every country. Effort should be made to formulate procurement approaches which enable and facilitate the integration of the construction process.

Lastly, the environment’s role in the construction industry. Some countries believe that they should pay attention to the environment and endeavour to protect it when they attain a high level of socio-economic development. The environmental problems of the developing countries exist side-by-side with a lack of managerial experience, financial resources, and legal and administrative systems. It is necessary to have a limit when it comes to development. However, the opportunity should be provided equally to both the development and the conserving environment.

In conclusion, developing countries will face major challenges especially in terms of the construction industry. The overarching issue of construction industry development should embrace all these issues. In other words, the developing countries should seek to develop construction industries which are well-poised to benefit from globalisation, enterprises and practitioners which are aware of, and actively seek to limit, the negative environmental impact of their activities, and which effectively apply the local culture to facilitate their efforts towards achieving success on their projects.
