DESIGN BASICS

PROJECT 2

​

  • To introduce and describe design elements as basic fundamental visual language

  • To apply basic design visual language into the process of communicating two-dimensional unconventional portraiture design 

  • To demonstrate an understanding of visual portraiture ideas and concepts through creative experimentation with conventional art and non-art media and materials.

TASK

  1. Minimum 3 A3 page with clear evidence of visual research into Natural and Man-made elements and extensive exploration of visual principles via analytical sketches with combination of “pigment-ink” pen, pastel pencils, acrylic paint, coloured-ink (ZIG Pen), or 2B/3B graphite pencil that creatively engaging in the exploration of different viewpoints/angles of seeing the Natural and Man-made subject for construction of designer’s portraiture. How you play with the integration into the portraiture composition is of great importance at this stage​

  2. Minimum 2 A3 (220 gsm) exploration and incorporation of personal (meaningful) symbolic shapes or letterforms (through expressive visualized words), and creative texture (surface) to generate unconventional portraiture visual expressions. 

  3. Final outcome of a DESIGNER’S PORTRAIT of a mixed media-A2 size -artwork (canvas board or 300 gsm paper) with 1 inch white boarder, labelled with Project 2 at the back of the artwork.

Cubist Multi-face carried from the Cubist Multifacial Portrait on Stage 2. 

However, on this, instead of just using colouring materials to create cubism on the background, I improvised and decided to use a mixture of colouring materials(watercolour, poster colour, acrylic, colour pencil) and recycled papers that I found at home.
When using colouring material, I have tried to apply the techniques that I learnt from Stage 1 & 2.
Also, I made the portrait to such that the faces pop out and the facial features blend a little with the background.
